BusAndTrainUser apologises for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause. We are attempting to source replacement blog reading material but readers are advised to make their own reading arrangements as it may be some time before it is available.

In view of this disruption, which is expected to last until the end of the day, readers are advised NOT TO ATTEMPT TO READ ANY BUSANDTRAINUSER BLOGS today.

Readers may use their existing subscription to read the next blog scheduled to appear on Thursday. Blog reading restrictions will be eased on that day.

Update. Arrangements have been made for blog reading acceptance on some other blog reading websites for the rest of the day listed on this website here.

We are very sorry today’s cancellation will disappoint readers. Please be assured the decision to cancel today’s blog has not been taken lightly, but unfortunately we’ve been left with no other option.

Your next fastest blog to read on this site will be published on Thursday 7th November. Please check your subscription is valid to read that blog.

Readers may be able to claim compensation for their reading loss today. Please refer to our website for more information.

  1. You have written over 99% of operational bloggage so your reputation is untarnished.

    Congratulations on this milestone!

  2. Congratulations Roger on 1,000 blogs. Surely this problem is something that “Control” could sort out with their customary complete disregard for blog readers (passengers)!

  3. Huh, Typical!

This would never have happened in the days of British Blog. Busandtrain user must be stripped of the franchise and this blog should be operated by the Blogger of Last Resort. 😉

    1. Perhaps control could remove all the blog readers and send an empty blog to the end of the line and then send a carriage return. Perhaps the new government could introduce OFBlog to protect the interests of blog providers.

  4. Brilliant! Well done on reaching 1000!

Just one thing though, there was a full subscription check during my reading journey at peak time “here up north” this morning and I was told by the inspector that I would be reported for prosecution because I had the wrong kind of subscription…

  5. Disappointed AI didnt write the Blog Timetable then you could have explained it wasnt a delay but a supply side adjustment to optimise resources

  7. as this cancellation was known the night before, take it as a P code, so in fact is not actually a cancellation.

    Congratulations on 1,000 blogs.

  8. Absolutely brilliant, Roger – knowing where you were yesterday I’m tempted to suggest there might have been a “wrong type of fuel” problem but hopefully not!

Anyway, many congratulations on achieving the magic thousand – every one of them full of interest.

  12. Congratulations, one thousand not out. No celebration just carry on providing a familiar reliable thrice weekly service.

Finding previous items and giving feedback/suggestions is easy on your website.

The pominence and clarity of Feedback signs are an instant measure when using public transport either on board or online.

I don’t expect a makeover by calling yourself Train and Bus User or move with current fashion and become the Great British Transport blog.

Just, keep up the good work and continue enjoying your retirement, providing ideas for days out to myself and others in the process.

A damaged windscreen on the blog.

.. This could go on and on ! A splendid way to celebrate your first thousand thoughtful writings.

Many thanks from us all, Roger.

  14. Your normal blog is being cancelled and replaced by an improved service operated by a DRT (Dreadful Replacement Tome) . The improvements include not being able to book a time of your chosing, but you will have the luxury of being the only person to read the blog at that time.

Here’s to the next 1,000 blogs.

  15. we no longer produce paper copies of our blogs or comprehensive blog booklets. Please use our unfriendly website……

with the reduction in printed timetables it is refreshing to see that public transport organisations in The Netherlands continue to produce a comprehensive all operator printed timetable as there continues to be demand for the printed product.

The 2025 timetable can be pre ordered on the ov shop.nl website and look at the top of the home page for Bestel Spoorboejke. Cost including postage to the Uk is 19.90 Euro . Around 1100 copies are available. Pre order by 5 December for 10 December despatch. Highly recommended.

    1. “public transport organisations in The Netherlands continue to produce a comprehensive all operator printed [rail] timetable”

Unfortunately this isn’t true. ovshop.nl is a private company unrelated to the public transport organisations.

Their timetable is more like the privately published GB Rail Timetable, which was offered for a while after the ‘official’ timetable was withdrawn here, if it had been arranged by Railfuture and RealTimeTrains/OpenTrainTimes and and sold for them by Trainline.

1100 copies a year frankly is a tiny number and suggests that it’s only transport enthusiasts who bother with it. More’s the pity.

  16. Congratulations on the 1000th blog.

If you fancy a day out by train today try a cheap day return from Hassocks to Leatherhead (not via Clapham Junction i.e. via Norwood Junction). It’s only £17.50 and even less with a Railcard. That’s cheaper than the fare to many stations you will stop at on the way and it’s available from lots of other stations in the Southern area.

  19. Well, clearly, this is an outrage. As a proud person (of arbitrary regional alliance), I am frankly disgusted with your cavalier attitude to blogging, Mr French. As I was telling Lord Michael Take DFC at a very important business meeting, I am astounded that you have sought to offend all right minded and very highly qualified persons by such an approach.

You are only adding more mill to the grist for those socialist types who will now insist on the adoption of neo-communist state controls so that blogging is rightly delivered for the benefit of the many, not the few. Sort it out, Rodger (sic)

    Kind regards

In addition I will NOT be reminding readers that GO AHEAD attempted to.cheat tax payers out of £53m with its rail franchises with DfT.

Please accept our apologies on being unable to praise Rotala & any inconvenience this may cause readers of Roger French’s excellent blog.

This greatly improves our offer to customers and is available for the bargain price of 10p less than the fully flexible Anytime Blog and is definitely not a trick to con more money from you
